Schüco goes on the digital offensive
Digitalisation of the value added chain in construction
Schüco goes on the digital offensive
Bielefeld/Munich. Digitalisation of the industry is moving forwards at a considerable pace. Industry 4.0 means “a network of autonomous product resources, as well as their planning and control systems, that can control and configure themselves depending on the situation, that are knowledge-based, sensor-controlled and distributed spatially,” according to the Industry 4.0 working group. The aim is to optimise the entire value added chain. For the construction industry, this means networking all the processes from the design and planning of a building project, through fabrication, installation, use and maintenance, as well as recycling. For a long time, Schüco has been providing assistance to architects, developers, façade fabricators and installers in the form of digital support for detailed design, planning, calculation, fabrication and installation processes. With the newly established Schüco Digital department, the new Schüco Virtual Construction Lab, and Plan. One ccs GmbH, founded on 1 January 2017, the company is now taking the next step on its digital roadmap – with many benefits for everyone involved in the construction process.
The newly established Schüco Digital department will develop and sell market-driven, digital solutions and products even faster. To this end, the department is divided into three key functions: Digital Products, Digital Support and Digital Lab.
The area of Digital Products combines SchüCal, SchüCad, value added functions and planning modules. The resulting digital products for the office desktop, for the Fabrication Data Center in the workshop or for mobile use during negotiations, in the workshop or on the building site are continuously developed, networked with the newly created platforms and supplemented with services tailored to target groups. Schüco is opening up to specialist software providers here in order to provide its metal fabrication partners, architects and developers with even more efficient and target group-specific services and products in future.
The area of Digital Support provides assistance to metal fabrication partners by means of individual consultations on software solutions and through software training. The aim of this area is to always achieve maximum flexibility for the metal fabricator in digital processes as well as fabrication processes – in each case tailored to the individual needs of the metal fabrication partner. To do this, the area works closely with the similarly newly created area of Schüco Fabrication, for digitalisation will reach the workshop too. It will increasingly become part of the fabrication processes and permanently change them. In addition to the established digital transmission of processing data to CNC machines, new project and information systems, such as the Schüco Fabrication Data Center, are now being incorporated in fabrication processes for the metal fabricator. In future, machines with these systems will exchange information and hence further improve fabrication. The development and sale of these fabrication solutions are the core tasks of the Schüco Fabrication team, in addition to individual consultation on fabrication queries through to workshop planning and worldwide machinery support.
In the Digital Lab area, new products and services are developed and launched on the market. On the one hand, these include products and services such as the “Virtual Construction Lab”, which will supplement the existing Schüco range of services in future. On the other, it comprises the provision of new, open platform solutions which were established by PLAN.ONE ccs GmbH.
The Schüco Virtual Construction Lab offers services on proficient and professional presentation to suit Schüco fabricators, so they can better impress clients and investors. At the request of a Schüco fabricator, experts create quotation documents tailored precisely to the respective building project. In the process, the product and project-specific requirements are described in a clear and comprehensible way and the benefits of the proposed solution explained. Here the portfolio ranges from high-quality 2D and 3D illustrations, animations and construction process simulations through to rapid prototyping, in order to win over decision makers. New and well thought-out – PLAN.ONE platform
Digitalisation not only means digitalising traditional processes; to a certain extent, it also means thinking in new ways. This is why Schüco has founded Plan. One ccs GmbH – for the vertical networking of everyone involved in the entire value added chain of the construction industry. To this end, Plan. One acts as an open, manufacturer-independent platform solution, tailored to all those involved in the construction. The current BIM standard is being further expanded, as uniform standards for classifying project and product data are created. Plan. One is initially divided into the areas of Plan. One architecture and Plan. One fabrication. In the next step, additional functions are being provided for building owners with Plan. One operation.
Plan. One architecture is a market-oriented, manufacturer-independent platform which networks developers and building suppliers. It analyses the product-specific requirements of a building project and gives product recommendations, including technical descriptions, images and reference projects. Suitable products can be transferred directly to the planning model.
PLAN.ONE fabrication is project management software aimed at fabricators for clearly arranged project management. It is market-oriented and browser-based. It covers all the areas responsible for the project and allows direct communication with everyone involved in the project. Individual access filters the data for each person involved, so that everyone receives precisely the information that is relevant to their role.
